Dr. Howard A. Popper is
a life-long New Yorker. He grew up in New York City and attended
the prestigious Stuyvesant High School. His college education was
at Brooklyn College, followed by his dental education at Howard
University School of Dentistry in Washington D.C. He graduated in
1971 and received the American Academy of Periodontology award for
excellence in Periodontics. He continued his dental education in
the graduate program in Periodontology at Boston University School of
Graduate Dentistry, graduating in 1973. In 1979, he achieved the
status of Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
He is a member of numerous
dental organizations, including the American Academy of Periodontology,
the Academy of Osseointegration, the Northeastern Society of
Periodontists, the American Dental Association, New York State Dental
Association, and the Suffolk County Dental Society. For more than
thirty years he was the program chairman of the Western Suffolk Dental
Study Club, providing hundreds of hours of continuing dental education
for local dentists. He has lectured both locally and
nationally. Dr. Popper has been practicing Periodontics since
1973, with offices in Melville and Port Jefferson Station in Suffolk
County.
In 1985, Dr. Popper received
his Branemark Training Certificate, which was the first U.S. dental
implant course.He has placed thousands of dental implants since 1985.
Dr. Popper has published articles in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, the Journal of Periodontology, and the Annals Dentistry, in the areas of Implant Dentistry, Periodontal Surgery, and Oral Medicine.
In 2004, he received the much
coveted 25 year certificate as a Diplomate of the American Board of
Periodontology. In 2001, he completed the Branemark Novum
Certification Course and placed the first Branemark Novum implant case
in Suffolk County.
In 2006, Dr. Popper completed the Teeth-In-An-Hour course and he placed the first Teeth-In-An-Hour cases in all of Long Island.
He is one of the pioneers of
the Immediate Load Procedure where the dental implants and teeth are
placed in one day, including the new All-On-Four
procedure. Most of the implant treatment is done with a flapless,
minimally invasive approach. The vast majority of his patients
are treated in conjunction with a Board Certified medical or dental
anesthesiologists, providing intravenous conscious sedation, so that
the patients are monitored in a safe and comfortable environment.
All of the procedures are done in a state-of-the-art surgical suite in
his office.
His daughter, Dr. Marlisa Popper,
has been in practice for five years and is entering the Prosthodontic
Graduate program at New York University. Marlisa’s husband, Dr. Evan Lynn,
is an Endodontist, currently practicing in New York City. He
graduated from the New York University Endodontic Graduate Program in
2005. In addition, Evan is currently a fellow at the NYU
Department of Implant Dentistry.
